Petrol Price Update: What Nigerians Pay Per Litre Now
Petrol prices continued to fluctuate across Nigeria last week, with some filling stations increasing their pump prices while others recorded slight reductions, despite the Federal Government’s proposed N1,350 per litre rate.
According to Daily Post, the changes affected depot prices and retail outlets, leaving motorists to pay different amounts depending on their locations and choice of filling station.
Dangote Refinery maintained its gantry price at N1,350 per litre, while some depot owners reduced their prices by between N5 and N6, bringing their rates to between N1,344 and N1,345 per litre.
However, the reductions at the depot level did not lead to uniform price cuts at filling stations, as some retailers continued to increase their pump prices.
In Abuja, petrol prices ranged between N1,370 and N1,420 per litre, depending on the filling station and its location within the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas.
MRS filling stations had earlier raised their pump price to N1,409 per litre, while other fuel marketers also adjusted their prices upward.
Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations also changed their rates during the week. Some outlets had reduced their prices to N1,370 per litre before increasing them to N1,405 per litre at the weekend.
The price changes came amid the Federal Government’s yet-to-be-implemented proposal to fix petrol prices at N1,350 per litre at NNPCL filling stations.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, had announced the proposed arrangement, raising expectations of a more consistent pump price.
However, the latest developments indicate that petrol prices remain uneven across retail outlets, with motorists continuing to pay varying rates despite the government’s announcement.
