Apple, Tesla Documents Allegedly Exposed After Cyber Incident at Tata Electronics

Tata Electronics has confirmed that it recently suffered a cybersecurity breach after a notorious ransomware group claimed to have obtained and published a massive cache of company data, including documents allegedly linked to Apple and Tesla.

The Indian electronics manufacturer said it detected suspicious activity on some of its systems several weeks ago and immediately activated its security response procedures.

According to the company, the incident has not disrupted production or affected ongoing business operations.

The breach came to light after cybersecurity researchers discovered that World Leaks, a ransomware-linked group, had uploaded what it claimed were stolen files belonging to Tata Electronics on the dark web.

Researchers who examined the data told Reuters that the leak contains more than 200,000 files totaling hundreds of gigabytes.

Among the materials reportedly exposed are engineering documents, manufacturing specifications, internal communications, employee records and other sensitive corporate information.

Some of the files allegedly reference Apple manufacturing operations, while others appear connected to Tesla vehicle components and production projects.

A source familiar with the matter said Apple has begun reviewing the incident and is conducting a detailed assessment of any potential impact.

The source also indicated that Tata Electronics received a ransom demand linked to the breach, though the company has declined to comment on that aspect.

Security analysts who reviewed portions of the leaked archive said they found documents carrying confidentiality markings belonging to both Apple and Tesla.

Some files reportedly contained technical drawings, manufacturing standards and component-related information tied to products made for the two technology giants.

Reuters was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the leaked materials, and neither Apple nor Tesla responded to requests for comment.

The incident presents another challenge for Apple’s rapidly expanding manufacturing network in India, where Tata Electronics has become one of the company’s most important partners outside China.

Tata currently plays a significant role in iPhone production within the country as India continues its push to become a major global electronics manufacturing hub.

Cybersecurity experts say the breach serves as a reminder of the growing risks facing multinational supply chains, where a successful attack on a single supplier can potentially expose sensitive information belonging to multiple global companies.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as Tata Electronics, its customers and cybersecurity authorities work to determine the full scale of the breach and assess whether any proprietary data was compromised.
