The Way We Live:There Are Battles Beyond Your Strength. Who Do You Call When Everything Else Fails?
Chinyere had made eleven telephone calls that afternoon. By the time she reached the twelfth contact, even her phone seemed tired of her desperation.

She had been searching for a job for months. Applications went unanswered, interviews produced familiar promises, and people who once sounded helpful gradually stopped answering.
Her friend Amaka found her sitting outside their compound, staring at her phone as though another telephone call might suddenly change everything.
“What happened this time?” Amaka asked.
Chinyere sighed.
“I have spoken to everybody I know. Nobody seems able to help me.”
“Have you prayed about it?”
“Of course! But I have also called my uncle, contacted two politicians and spoken to someone who knows somebody.”
Amaka looked at her for a moment.
“So you have assembled an entire government, but have you remembered the One who created everything?”
Chinyere burst into laughter.
“Please, don’t start. Even the Minister of Employment would be tired of my calls by now.”
They laughed together, but the question carried a deeper message. Chinyere wanted a breakthrough, and she was becoming increasingly frustrated.
There are battles strength cannot win, doors connections cannot open and problems intellect cannot solve. Every human being eventually encounters circumstances beyond personal control.
It could be an unexpected illness, a difficult family situation, financial hardship, career disappointment or an opportunity that refuses to materialise despite repeated efforts.
You may have the qualifications, experience, money and right contacts, yet discover that something important remains outside your control.
At such moments, where does your help come from?
Psalm 121:1–2 gives us a beautiful answer:
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”
The Psalmist understood that human assistance has limitations. His confidence rested in God, whose ability cannot be measured by human circumstances.
Supernatural help is God’s divine intervention in human affairs. It is His assistance, favour and direction when situations exceed ordinary human ability.
This does not mean God discourages hard work or expects us to abandon our responsibilities. It means recognising Him as our ultimate source, even when He uses people.
A stranger may recommend you for a position, a colleague may introduce you to an opportunity, and an unexpected conversation may change your circumstances.
Sometimes, the person carrying an answer to your prayer does not even know that God is using them.
Depend on God
The first way to position yourself for supernatural help is to depend on God. Psalm 121:2 reminds us where our help ultimately comes from.
This dependence does not require you to despise human assistance. Rather, it prevents you from treating influential people as though they control your entire future.
Remember David’s encounter with Goliath. Before confronting the giant, he recalled how God had helped him overcome the lion and the bear.
David did not enter the battlefield boasting about his physical strength. He placed his confidence in God, declaring that the battle belonged to the Lord.
However, he still picked up his stones and approached Goliath. His faith did not eliminate his participation in the battle.
That distinction matters. Trusting God does not mean folding your arms while expecting opportunities to locate your sitting room.
Obey God’s Word
The second way to position yourself for supernatural help is through obedience. Psalm 119:105 declares:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
God’s Word provides direction for our decisions, relationships and everyday conduct. It helps us recognise choices that honour Him and avoid those that repeatedly lead us into trouble.
Sometimes, we ask God for direction while refusing to follow instructions we already understand. We request divine intervention but remain unwilling to change.
Imagine praying for a peaceful marriage while deliberately entertaining dishonesty, disrespect and bitterness. Prayer should never become an excuse for refusing to correct our behaviour.
Obedience does not guarantee a trouble-free life. It means choosing to follow God’s instructions even when they challenge our preferences or convenience.
Develop Your Capacity
Here is another important part of supernatural help that deserves attention: preparing yourself for the opportunities you are asking God to provide.
One evening, Amaka visited Chinyere and found her watching motivational videos on her phone. A notebook lay untouched beside her.
“Have you heard anything about that job?” Amaka asked.
“Not yet. I am believing God for a miracle.”
“Wonderful. Have you prepared for another interview?”
“Amaka, must everything involve work? Can’t a person receive favour?”
“Of course, you can receive favour. But what happens when they call you tomorrow?”
Chinyere smiled.
“I will tell them God has answered my prayers.”
“And when they ask you about the job requirements?”
“I will ask them to give me a little time to pray.”
Both women burst into laughter.
Amaka picked up the notebook.
“My sister, pray as much as you want, but let us update that CV. Heaven is not responsible for correcting your spelling mistakes.”
The laughter continued, but Chinyere understood the point. She needed to prepare herself rather than spend every day waiting for somebody to discover her.
Matthew 25:14–28 records Jesus’ parable of the talents. The servants received different responsibilities, and their responses revealed how they handled what was entrusted to them.
The servant who buried his talent was rebuked for failing to put it to productive use. What he received was supposed to be developed.
Proverbs 22:29 also highlights the value of diligence and skill, describing the skilled worker who stands before kings.
If you are praying for academic success, study. If you desire professional advancement, improve your competence. If you want business growth, understand your customers.
A person praying for employment should prepare for interviews. Someone trusting God for promotion should develop the skills required for greater responsibility.
God can open a door, but you must be prepared to handle the responsibility waiting on the other side.
Consider Joseph in Egypt. His elevation before Pharaoh was extraordinary, but managing the approaching famine required wisdom, organisation and administrative ability.
Divine favour brought Joseph before Pharaoh, while his preparation helped him fulfil the responsibility attached to that opportunity.
From Lagos to London, Johannesburg to New York, people face different challenges, but the importance of preparation remains relevant across professions and circumstances.
There is also a lesson about timing. Not every delay means God has abandoned you, and not every open door is necessarily yours to enter.
Sometimes, the answer comes through an unexpected person. At other times, the opportunity takes longer or the solution looks different from what you imagined.
This is why we need discernment, patience and a willingness to trust God beyond our preferred arrangements.

You may not have the strongest connections, the highest qualifications or the financial resources available to others. Nevertheless, your circumstances ccanno limit God’s ability.
My Personal Thoughts:
There are situations where your best efforts cannot produce the answer you need. That is not permission to abandon responsibility; it is an invitation to deepen your dependence on God.
One Thing Worth Remembering:
Depend on God as your source, obey His Word as your guide and develop your capacity for the responsibilities you desire. Pray, prepare and remain faithful.
A Prayer For Today:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being our help in every season. When our strength fails, sustain us with Your grace and direct our steps.
Connect us with people who will contribute positively to our lives. Open doors according to Your will, grant us wisdom and teach us to recognise Your direction.
Help us become diligent, responsible and prepared for every opportunity You place before us. May our lives continually reflect Your goodness and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let’s Talk:
What are you trusting God to help you with, and what practical step are you taking while you wait?
