Taraba Attack: Death Toll Rises to 60 as Reps Demand Urgent Intervention
The House of Representatives has called for immediate security and humanitarian assistance following a deadly attack on Binnari community in Taraba State, where reported fatalities have reached 60.

The attack, which occurred on October 23, 2026, affected Binnari community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, leaving several families bereaved and residents displaced.
Lawmakers also called for stronger security collaboration between Taraba, Plateau and Bauchi states to address recurring attacks and prevent further casualties.
The resolution followed a motion brought before the House concerning the killings and the worsening security situation in the affected communities.
As part of its demands, the House urged relevant authorities to provide emergency assistance to displaced residents and others affected by the violence.
The lawmakers also called for the speedy completion of the Wase–Karim Lamido road, describing improved road access as important to security operations in the area.
Contributing to the debate, Minority Leader Fredrick Agbedi expressed concern over the repeated reliance on legislative resolutions and moments of silence following deadly attacks.
He argued that such responses must translate into practical measures capable of protecting communities and preventing further loss of lives.
Agbedi advocated technology-driven security operations, including better intelligence gathering, surveillance and coordination among security agencies.
Responding to the concerns, the Deputy Speaker highlighted government efforts to combat insecurity, including military operations against terrorists and the surrender of some insurgents.
He also cited a reduction in the number of local government areas under insurgent control and increased government expenditure on security.
The House urged relevant security and humanitarian agencies to respond swiftly, restore safety in affected communities and provide assistance to displaced families.

The lawmakers stressed the need for coordinated action by federal and state authorities to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable communities.
