Bandits Kill Immigration Officer, Burn His Body After Niger Attack
Armed bandits have killed an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and burnt his body after attacking a surveillance team in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The victim, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I Ibrahim Usman Babagiwa, was on duty with another immigration officer when the attackers struck along the Tungan Taya-Woko axis on October 6, 2026.
The surviving officer, an Inspector of Immigration, sustained machete injuries during the assault but managed to escape from the attackers.
He is currently stable and responding to treatment, according to the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
In a statement issued on October 12, 2026, the command confirmed the incident and disclosed that Babagiwa’s remains were discovered two days after the attack.
The statement was signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSI M. Abubakar, on behalf of the Comptroller of Immigration in Niger State.
Babagiwa was subsequently buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Despite the killing, the immigration command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling irregular migration and addressing security challenges along Nigeria’s international borders.
The attack adds to security concerns surrounding operations in parts of Niger State, where personnel carrying out official duties face risks from armed groups.
