Court Orders Man Detained Over Alleged Threat to Release Kano Governor’s Nude Photos
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Sanusi Dankaka’s detention over allegations that he threatened to publish nude photographs and videos of Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Justice Salim Ibrahim issued the order on Monday after the Department of State Services (DSS) charged Dankaka with two cybercrime offences. He pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors alleged that Dankaka and unidentified accomplices used his Facebook account, Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to threaten to release the governor’s alleged nude photographs and videos.
The DSS claimed the threatened publication intended to cause annoyance, inconvenience, insult and injury to the governor, citing the Cybercrimes Act, 2015, as amended.
DSS counsel Yusuf Afegbua requested a trial date and asked the court to keep Dankaka in custody. Defence lawyer Kauna Penzin did not oppose the application.
Justice Ibrahim adjourned the case until December 7 for trial and ordered Dankaka’s continued detention at Kuje Correctional Centre.
The allegations remain unproven in court, as the defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges.
