Catholic Priest Praises Sifuna as Rallies Attract National Attention
A Catholic priest, Father Melchizedek, has praised Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying his growing political appeal is driven by his ideas, character and intelligence rather than wealth or material possessions. Speaking during a Mass, the priest described Sifuna as a “sober” leader and urged aspiring politicians not to be discouraged by a lack of money or property.
Father Melchizedek compared Sifuna’s rise to that of former US President Barack Obama, arguing that both demonstrated how intelligence and strong ideas can attract public support despite humble beginnings. He also pointed to Sifuna’s rallies, saying attendees appear willing to contribute financially to his movement rather than simply attending political events to receive handouts.
The comments come amid growing activity around Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement following his removal as ODM secretary general.

Supporters have reportedly raised more than KSh6.5 million to fund rallies and other activities, while an online group known as the Sifuna Online Defence Forces has also emerged to challenge what members describe as misinformation about the senator.
