“Europe Will Keep Dying”: Musk Compares EU Births to Nigeria’s Population Boom
Billionaire entrepreneur and Tesla Chief Executive Officer, Elon Musk, has once again sounded the alarm over Europe’s declining birth rate, pointing to Nigeria’s rapidly growing population as a sharp contrast.
In a post shared on X on Friday, Musk claimed that Nigeria recorded four million more births than the entire European Union in 2025, using the comparison to reinforce his long-held argument that Europe faces a demographic crisis.
“Nigeria alone had 4 million more births than the entire EU last year!” he wrote.
The comment adds to Musk’s repeated warnings that shrinking family sizes across Europe could have far-reaching consequences if the trend continues.
Backing his position, Musk reposted an infographic originally shared by an X account identified as Giga Based Dad, which carried the message: “Europe will cease to exist soon. We need to bring back having HUGE families.”
Responding to the post, Musk wrote:
“Either Europe starts having large families or it will keep dying.”
The infographic, credited to geo.universe, compared fertility rates across European countries and suggested that much of the continent is experiencing persistently low birth rates.
It described fertility rate as the average number of children a woman is expected to have during her child-bearing years, using 2024 estimates.
Countries where women were projected to have fewer than one child on average were classified as having an “extremely low” fertility rate, while nations averaging around 1.5 children per woman were placed in the “insufficient” category.
Musk has consistently argued that falling birth rates pose one of the greatest long-term threats to human civilisation, maintaining that population decline could create serious economic and social challenges if left unchecked.
