Some horror films have gone far beyond frightening audiences, becoming so graphic or disturbing that censors in several countries refused to allow them to be shown.

Released in 1980, Cannibal Holocaust became one of the most controversial films in cinema history. Its realistic depictions of violence, torture and cannibalism led to bans in numerous countries, while director Ruggero Deodato was even arrested after authorities suspected that some of the deaths shown in the film were real.
