13 Dead, 19 Rescued in Three Days of Drowning Incidents Across Libya

At least 13 people have died while 19 others were rescued following a series of drowning incidents recorded across Libyan beaches over a three-day period.

Libya’s Main Maritime Rescue Chamber confirmed the incidents occurred between Thursday and Saturday, prompting renewed warnings for the public to stay away from the sea during dangerous weather conditions.

In one of the latest rescue operations, the Zureiq Rescue Unit saved a father and his son after reports that they were drowning off the coast of Zureiq village.

Both victims were taken to a hospital and are said to be in good condition.

Meanwhile, the Driana Maritime Rescue Unit, working alongside the Benghazi branch of the Libyan Red Crescent, safely evacuated beachgoers from Al-Yaqouta Beach Resort without recording any casualties.

Authorities also confirmed the deaths of two teenagers, Abdullah Hamrashousha and Mohamed Al-Harawi, both born in 2009, who drowned in the Al-Ajilat area.

Rescue officials have urged residents and visitors to strictly observe safety advisories and avoid swimming when sea conditions are unsafe to help prevent further tragedies.
