Spain’s World Cup triumph was capped by a clean sweep of the tournament’s biggest individual awards after midfielder Rodri was named the winner of the Golden Ball following his side’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in Sunday’s final.

The Spaniards lifted their second FIFA Men’s World Cup title at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, completing an impressive campaign that also earned goalkeeper Unai Simón the Golden Glove and teenage defender Pau Cubarsí the Best Young Player award.

Rodri’s recognition marked another milestone in a remarkable career that has seen him establish himself as one of football’s most influential midfielders.

The award also completed a remarkable comeback after the serious knee injury that sidelined him for months earlier in his career.

Although he did not score during the tournament, the Spain captain was widely praised for dictating play, controlling possession and providing the composure that underpinned his team’s unbeaten run to the title.

Speaking after receiving the award, Rodri described the achievement as a dream come true and praised his teammates for making history together.

“This feels unbelievable. We have become world champions again, and it is something we achieved as a team.

Winning a World Cup is one of the hardest things in football, and doing it against a side like Argentina makes it even more special,” he said.

Unai Simón also enjoyed an outstanding tournament, conceding only once in eight matches while keeping seven clean sheets to claim the Golden Glove.

The goalkeeper credited Spain’s defensive discipline, saying the award reflected the collective effort of the entire squad rather than his performances alone.

Nineteen-year-old Pau Cubarsí was named the tournament’s Best Young Player after a series of composed displays throughout Spain’s title-winning campaign. He finished ahead of fellow Spanish teenager Lamine Yamal in the race for the award.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who was seeking a third Golden Ball after leading his country to another World Cup final at the age of 39, finished with the Silver Ball.

France forward Kylian Mbappé claimed the Bronze Ball and also secured the Golden Boot after finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals and four assists.

Spain’s victory not only secured another world title but also underlined the depth of talent within the squad, with their players dominating both the team and individual honours at the tournament’s conclusion.
