Nigerian Gospel Singer Asu Ekiye Announces End of 28-Year Marriage
Nigerian gospel singer, Asu Ekiye, has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu.

Ekiye, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” made the announcement on Thursday through a statement shared on his Facebook page.
The Bayelsa-born singer said the marriage had actually ended about a year ago, but he deliberately waited before making the development public.
According to him, the decision to delay the announcement was to give him enough time to reflect on the experience and come to terms with the changes that followed the end of the marriage.
In a statement titled “Public Notice,” Ekiye described the marriage as a deeply personal journey that brought years of experiences, growth and reflection.
He wrote: “I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”
Explaining why he chose to speak about the matter a year after the marriage ended, the singer said he wanted time to gain perspective and acceptance before making such a personal matter public.
“This marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he said.
Ekiye, who has built a career spanning several decades in Nigerian gospel music, is known for his strong connection to the culture and musical traditions of the Niger Delta.
The singer did not disclose the reason for the end of the marriage and gave no further details about what led to the separation.
His announcement brings an end to nearly three decades of marriage, as he now looks ahead to what he described as a new season of his life.
