I Heard Obi Is Back in Nigeria After Sneaking out to Have Rest, We Warned Him– Shettima
Vice President Kashim Shettima has said he heard that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, is back in Nigeria after sneaking out to have a rest.
Shettima made the remark during the APC presidential rally in Akwa Ibom State, where he spoke to supporters ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Vice President said Obi had returned to the country after travelling abroad, a trip he described as a rest outside Nigeria.
He claimed that Obi might have avoided arriving through Lagos and Abuja, even though those are the country’s major arrival points.
Shettima added that the former Anambra State governor had damaged his public image through what he described as lies and misleading statistics.
According to him, “I hear my friend Peter Obi is back in the country after sneaking out to have a rest. He might have avoided Lagos and Abuja arrival. But clearly this gentleman has run himself out of his face with his lies and bogus statistics. We warned him that it would get to that.”
Shettima Says Obi Has Lost Goodwill
The Vice President said Obi has lost the goodwill he once enjoyed among Nigerians.
He said Obi no longer attracts the excitement that followed him in the past, adding that his recent public statements now attract criticism instead of support.
Shettima said Obi had been warned that his actions could lead to the situation he now finds himself in.
He maintained that the warning was given before Obi’s current challenges, and that the outcome was expected.
APC Rally In Akwa Ibom
The remarks were made at the APC rally in Akwa Ibom, where party leaders gathered to mobilise voters for the ruling party.
Shettima used the occasion to call on residents of the state to vote for the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
Obi, who previously served as governor of Anambra State, is contesting the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
