Julian Erosa Explains Why He Walked Away From the UFC After a Knockout Victory
Julian Erosa has explained why he decided to retire from mixed martial arts despite ending his UFC career with an impressive first-round knockout victory over JeongYeong Lee at UFC Vegas 123. The longtime featherweight favourite announced his retirement before the bout and officially walked away with a 10-9 record inside the Octagon.

Speaking to reporters after the fight, Erosa said he feared that winning would make him want to compete again, while losing would leave him seeking redemption. He therefore discussed his decision with his wife before the fight and made peace with the idea of retirement. Having experienced the Ultimate Fighter, the Contender Series, multiple UFC departures and returns, he said he wanted to end his career on his own terms without looking back.

Although MMA fighters sometimes reverse retirement decisions, Erosa appears comfortable with his choice. He also has a young family to focus on, while his history of repeated knockouts makes stepping away a sensible decision. His final performance gave him the opportunity to leave the UFC on a high note.
