Djokovic Settles Australian Open Question as Retirement Speculation Grows
Novak Djokovic has confirmed he intends to compete at the 2027 Australian Open, dismissing growing speculation about his immediate future in tennis. The 39-year-old Serbian star made his plans clear ahead of his appearance at the Swiss Indoors Basel, insisting that his focus remains on finishing the current season strongly despite recent setbacks and reported health concerns.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion reached the Australian Open final earlier this year but endured a disappointing US Open campaign, exiting in the first round before bouncing back to win the China Open. His progress then stalled at the Shanghai Masters, where he suffered another early defeat. Djokovic is also targeting the ATP Finals in Turin and plans to compete at the Six Kings exhibition in Saudi Arabia before turning his attention to next season.

Djokovic said indoor tournaments suit him better at this stage of his career because they reduce the physical demands associated with extreme heat and outdoor conditions. He is scheduled to face Ugo Humbert in Basel, where he has returned after 15 years away from the tournament. With the Australian Open already on his plans for 2027, Djokovic has given fans reason to believe he is not ready to walk away from the sport just yet.
