INUWA YAHAYA HIGHLIGHTS SECURITY, INFRASTRUCTURE GAPS IN NORTH-EAST
Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has highlighted security and infrastructure challenges affecting development across the North-East.
Yahaya, who chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum, spoke at the forum’s 13th meeting in Maiduguri.
He said Boko Haram insurgency has been weakened but not defeated, leaving many displaced residents unable to safely return home.
The Governor also identified the Mambilla hydropower project, regional railway connections and broadband expansion as major projects yet to be realised.
Yahaya described the Kolmani oil exploration project as a major opportunity, saying it must translate into production, jobs and revenue for the region.
He also called for the legal exploitation of solid minerals, warning that natural resources should benefit communities rather than fund criminal activities.
The Governor urged his colleagues to maintain honesty and strengthen efforts to address the region’s security, infrastructure, health and education challenges.
