US Marine Arrested Over Alleged Murder of Woman in Okinawa
Japanese police have arrested a 20-year-old US Marine stationed at Futenma Air Station over the alleged robbery and murder of a 39-year-old woman in Naha, Okinawa.
Police said the woman was found dead in her hotel room early Saturday and appeared to have been strangled. Investigators reportedly identified the Marine through security footage showing him entering the hotel with the woman and later leaving alone.

The arrest has renewed concerns in Okinawa over crimes involving US service members and the long-standing presence of American military bases on the island. Okinawa Gov. Genta Koja described the case as shocking and said it had heightened fear among residents.
Japan has demanded cooperation from US authorities in the investigation, while the US Marine Corps said it takes the allegations seriously and is fully cooperating with Japanese authorities. The suspect’s legal status and the allegations against him remain subject to the ongoing investigation.
