Trinity University Opens New Lagos Annex With 850 Student Bed Spaces

Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, has expanded its facilities with a new six-storey annex providing 850 bed spaces for students, while the institution has also received approval for three additional academic programmes.

The new facility, located on Commercial Avenue, Yaba, was dedicated on Thursday during a ceremony attended by university officials, church leaders and other members of the institution’s community.

Delivering the dedication sermon, the General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, described the dedication of the facility as an opportunity to commit the institution and its property to God.

Aboyeji said dedication involved inviting God into a work and entrusting it to Him, adding that the presence of God could make a significant difference in a person’s life and destiny.

He referred to the biblical account of Moses, who insisted that he would not proceed without God’s presence going with him.

The cleric also shared the story of a man who secured a job after an interview despite competing against other candidates. According to him, members of the interview panel had described the man’s presence as unusually outstanding.

Aboyeji said the man had spent three days praying and worshipping on a prayer mountain before proceeding directly to the interview.

He used the story to illustrate what he described as the impact of spending time in God’s presence.

Speaking at the ceremony, the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Pastor Olatunji, attributed the acquisition of the property to what he described as God’s favour.

Olatunji said the development represented years of faith, perseverance and commitment to the vision of the Trinity Education Foundation, which began more than three decades ago with the establishment of a school.

“God has been wonderful. Since we started the university, it has been moving from glory to glory,” he said.

He added that the foundation had continued to grow through years of faith, prayer and commitment, while expressing confidence that future generations would preserve and advance its mission.

The Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Prof. Clement Kolawole, said the new annex would help address one of the major challenges previously limiting the institution’s admission capacity.

According to Kolawole, many prospective students seek accommodation as part of their university experience, making residential facilities an important consideration for families choosing an institution.

The newly acquired facility includes student accommodation, laboratories, classrooms, a cafeteria and a library serving students in various programmes.

Kolawole also announced that the university had secured approval for three new programmes — Community Health, Public Health and Environmental Health.

The approvals have raised the number of fully accredited programmes offered by the university to 22.

The Vice-Chancellor said the institution would continue to focus on the timely commencement of academic activities, staff welfare, student welfare and the provision of a suitable environment for teaching and learning.

He urged students to take their academic responsibilities seriously by attending lectures, making effective use of the library, completing assignments and preparing adequately for examinations.

Kolawole also disclosed that parents could pay school fees in four instalments of 40 per cent, 20 per cent, 20 per cent and 20 per cent.

He said the payment structure was introduced to reduce the immediate financial pressure on families while helping students continue their education without unnecessary interruptions.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, stressed that parents were expected to honour the agreed payment arrangements as the university continued to provide academic and welfare support to its students.

With the new annex and additional programmes, Trinity University is expanding both its residential capacity and academic offerings as it continues to develop its Yaba campus.
