WORLD CLEANUP DAY: LAWMA CLEANS STRATEGIC LOCATIONS ACROSS LAGOS
…collaborates with Green Janitors to promote environmental sanitation
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has marked the 2026 World Cleanup Day with coordinated environmental sanitation activities across strategic locations in Lagos, in collaboration with Green Janitors.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said at the weekend that the activities reflected the Authority’s commitment to sustained environmental sanitation, greater public participation and collective responsibility for environmental protection.
He explained that the cleanup activities covered Igando Market, Badagry Roundabout, Olorunda and Lord Mayor’s Club in Badagry, as well as Oke-Afa Market in Isolo, with LAWMA personnel and Green Janitors working together to remove accumulated waste and improve the environmental condition of the locations.
Gbadegesin said that the World Cleanup Day provided an important platform to draw attention to the need for sustained action against indiscriminate waste disposal and encourage individuals, communities, businesses and corporate organisations to play a greater role in protecting the environment.
He called on corporate organisations to explore opportunities to support environmental sanitation and protection as well as the beautification of public spaces as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The LAWMA boss noted that such partnerships could complement government efforts and help sustain environmental improvements in communities and other public spaces across the State.
He urged residents, traders, market associations, businesses and other stakeholders to sustain the gains of the cleanup activities by properly packaging their waste and handing it over to accredited Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for proper disposal.
He stated that the message of the World Cleanup Day should go beyond the day, adding that achieving a cleaner Lagos required sustained behavioural change, responsible waste disposal and collective action by government, communities, businesses and residents.
