Aryna Sabalenka began her US Open title defence in strong fashion, defeating Colombia’s Camila Osorio 6-2, 6-4 on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The Belarusian is chasing a third straight US Open crown but faces pressure to protect her world number-one ranking. Elena Rybakina is just 434 points behind her after Sabalenka’s inconsistent form this season.

Sabalenka will face Russian qualifier Polina Iatcenko in the second round as she continues her bid for another title at Flushing Meadows.
