Trump Unveils Fresh Economic Offensive Against Iran, Warns Allies
United States President Donald Trump has announced a new and tougher economic campaign against Iran, warning countries and businesses that continue dealing with Tehran that they could face severe consequences.
The announcement came as diplomatic efforts to end the prolonged conflict between the United States and Iran remained deadlocked.
Trump disclosed the move in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, accusing Iran of failing to take advantage of an opportunity to negotiate a settlement.
He said Tehran would now face what he described as “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale.”
The US President also directed a warning at countries that maintain commercial or financial links with Iran, saying they could become targets of American sanctions.
“Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences,” Trump wrote.
He specifically listed oil smuggling, financial swap arrangements, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registrations and front companies among activities he said must end.
“You know who you are. This will be an Economic D-DAY, and we require all of our Allies to unite with the United States of America to isolate and overcome the Iran threat,” he added.
The latest threat is part of the Trump administration’s wider effort to put economic pressure on Iran and restrict the sources of revenue available to Tehran.
Since April, Washington has intensified its sanctions campaign under an initiative known as Operation Economic Fury, targeting sectors considered important to Iran’s economy.
The United States has already imposed broad restrictions on Iranian oil exports, shipping operations and financial activities as it seeks to reduce Tehran’s earnings from energy sales.
Washington has also moved against companies, brokers and tankers accused of helping Iran transport and sell its oil internationally.
The administration has further established a naval blockade around Iranian ports as part of efforts to tighten economic pressure on Tehran.
Trump’s latest announcement signals a further escalation of the campaign, with the President seeking greater cooperation from US allies in cutting Iran off from international financial and commercial networks.
