Islam Makhachev reveals Turki Alalshikh contacted Conor McGregor over possible boxing fight

Islam Makhachev has revealed that Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh contacted Conor McGregor about the possibility of the two UFC stars meeting in a boxing match.

Makhachev said the conversation happened while he was attending a boxing event with Alalshikh. According to the UFC welterweight champion, Alalshikh called McGregor and asked whether he would be interested in boxing him.

Makhachev said he was also open to the idea, but noted that UFC president Dana White would have to approve any potential crossover fight.

The Russian champion, who has a 28-1 MMA record, admitted he is not an elite boxer but believes he can compete on the feet.

McGregor, meanwhile, has not fought since suffering a knee injury during his planned UFC 329 comeback against Max Holloway. He has one professional boxing bout on his record, a 2017 defeat to Floyd Mayweather.

For now, there is no official fight announcement, with no date, venue, weight class or contract confirmed. But Makhachev’s revelation has added fresh fuel to speculation about a blockbuster boxing showdown between the two UFC stars.
