Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Eyes Liverpool FC Stake
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly considering joining an investment consortium seeking to acquire a stake in Premier League club Liverpool FC.
British media reports say the 62-year-old billionaire has held discussions about joining a group led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.
The consortium is reportedly pursuing a deal with Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owner, in a transaction that could value the club at more than £4.5 billion, or about $6 billion.
However, a source told Sky News that Bezos had not yet made a final decision on whether to join the investment group.
If the deal goes ahead, it would mark a significant step into English football for one of the world’s richest men, while further highlighting the growing presence of American investors in the Premier League.
Bezos has previously explored opportunities to acquire teams in the NFL, including the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, although neither deal was completed.
The Amazon founder, who also owns aerospace company Blue Origin, is estimated by Forbes to have a fortune of nearly $257 billion, making him the world’s fourth-richest person.
His business interests have also expanded rapidly into artificial intelligence. Through his family office, Bezos Expeditions, he has reportedly increased investments in AI startups, including participation in a $12 billion Series B funding round for Prometheus, an AI company valued at approximately $41 billion.
Bezos is a co-founder and co-CEO of Prometheus. His family office has also invested in AI companies including General Intuition, CuspAI, Generalist and Flourish, which are developing technologies in fields ranging from chemistry and robotics to brain-inspired computing.
For now, however, Bezos’ possible move into football remains uncertain. Whether the Amazon founder will ultimately join the consortium seeking a stake in Liverpool is yet to be decided.
