Pope Leo Offers Prayers, Support as Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Soars to 1,400
Pope Leo XIV has expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that have claimed more than 1,400 lives and left thousands of families affected.

Speaking after the Angelus prayer on Sunday, the Pope offered prayers for those who died, wished a speedy recovery to the injured and extended his spiritual closeness to families mourning their loved ones.
He also thanked rescue workers and volunteers risking their lives to search for survivors in the devastated communities.
The Pope appealed to the international community to stand by Venezuela as it confronts the humanitarian crisis triggered by the powerful earthquakes, which caused widespread destruction across several regions of the country.

Rescue operations have continued around the clock, particularly in La Guaira State, one of the worst-hit areas, where emergency teams are still searching through collapsed buildings for missing persons.
The Vatican has also provided an initial emergency donation of €100,000 to support relief efforts. The assistance is being coordinated through the Apostolic Almoner’s Office in collaboration with the Apostolic Nunciature and local Church authorities.

Meanwhile, Catholic parishes and Caritas organisations across Venezuela have opened their facilities to shelter displaced residents and provide food, medical supplies and other essential assistance as recovery efforts continue.
