Fame Took Away My Freedom — Nkem Owoh Breaks His Silence
Veteran Nollywood comic actor, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has reflected on his unexpected journey into acting, describing it as something that happened without a clear plan.
He said his original interest was scriptwriting, working quietly behind the scenes while others took the spotlight in front of the camera.
According to him, his natural humour did not go unnoticed, as colleagues began to push him toward performing instead of staying behind the scenes.
He recalled that early television opportunities in the 1980s marked a turning point, when short comedy appearances revealed a talent that audiences quickly embraced.
What started as encouragement gradually turned into a full career, as demand for his comic roles continued to grow and pulled him deeper into acting.
However, he admitted that fame came with unexpected consequences, saying public recognition changed his everyday life in ways he never anticipated.
He noted that constant attention from fans and the restrictions of celebrity life gradually took away the personal freedom he once enjoyed.
