VDM Takes Protest to Police Headquarters, Demands Apology From AIG Moshood

Popular social activist Verydarkman, widely known as VDM, has staged a protest at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja, calling on Assistant Inspector General of Police, Jimoh Moshood, to apologise over the handling of a murder case involving a man identified as Hameed.

VDM arrived at the police headquarters with an unusual procession that included traditional dancers and a live singer, turning the protest into a highly visible public demonstration.

The activist said his action was prompted by the case of Hameed, whom he claimed was declared wanted by the police in connection with a murder allegation before proper investigation had been concluded.

According to VDM, a court subsequently cleared the man and directed AIG Moshood to apologise over the matter. He questioned why the alleged apology had yet to be issued despite the court’s directive.

Addressing supporters during the protest, VDM said the matter went beyond one individual, arguing that the power of law enforcement should not be used in a manner that could destroy the reputation or future of someone who has not been found guilty of an offence.

He also raised concerns about the possibility of innocent people being wrongly implicated in criminal cases.

VDM alleged that police officers could plant incriminating items in a person’s vehicle or belongings and subsequently use such evidence against them.

The activist described Hameed’s case as one that required public attention, saying he had chosen to speak because the man needed someone to stand up for him.

The protest also attracted attention because of its unconventional presentation, with traditional performers and a singer accompanying VDM as he made his demands at the Force headquarters.

His central demand remained an apology from AIG Moshood, which he said should be issued in accordance with the court’s directive.

VDM’s protest has once again placed questions surrounding police conduct, investigation procedures and the protection of citizens’ rights at the centre of public discussion.
