UN Extends Haiti Gang Suppression Mission as More Forces Prepare to Deploy
The United Nations has extended its Gang Suppression Force mission in Haiti as international efforts intensify to confront armed gangs and restore public safety in the crisis-hit country.

The UN-backed force, authorised in 2025, is working alongside the Haitian National Police and Armed Forces to clear roads and neighbourhoods, reopen areas controlled by gangs and shut down illegal tolls used to generate revenue. More than 1,500 personnel are currently on the ground, while about 4,000 additional troops are expected to arrive in the coming months.

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said the mission is designed to help Haitians eventually regain control of their own security and future. He acknowledged that gangs remain a serious threat but said the international effort was beginning to make progress.
