There is something disturbing about those who play down on the importance of learning from history, they do not just repeat avoidable mistakes, they indulge others when facing the consequences.
Here’s the catch, what happens to us is never as important as the conscious effort that should be made to ensure that we don’t go through that path again.
Very quickly, let’s cast our minds back on remarkable events that went down historically on this day in history.
On this day in 1781, Los Angeles is founded as El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora La Reina de los Ángeles (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels) by 44 Spanish settlers.
Still on this day in 1888, George Eastman registers the trademark Kodak and receives a patent for his camera that uses roll film.
Again on this day in 1950, Darlington Raceway is the site of the inaugural Southern 500, the first 500-mile NASCAR race.
It was on this day in 1951 that the first live transcontinental television broadcast takes place in San Francisco, United States, from the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference.
In 1972 on this day, Mark Spitz becomes the first competitor to win seven medals at a single Olympic Games.
According to Today in History, in 1972, The Price Is Right premieres on CBS. It currently is the longest running game show on American television.
Still on this day in 1998, Google is founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two PhD students at Stanford University.
Today in History has it that on this day in 2001, Tokyo DisneySea opens to the public as part of the Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan.
Regrettably 1984, the iconic Afrobeat pioneer and political activist Fela Kuti was indeed arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos in early September 1984 under Muhammadu Buhari’s military regime and subsequently jailed on currency tracking charges.
