Tinubu Returns From Europe, Says: ‘I Enjoyed Myself’
President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about a month in Europe, saying he enjoyed his extended stay away from the country.
Tinubu made the comment on Tuesday evening after arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6pm.
A journalist welcomed the President and asked how his vacation had been.
“I enjoyed myself,” Tinubu replied.
The President was received at the airport by several senior political figures, including Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Tinubu also dismissed concerns and rumours surrounding his health during his time outside the country, insisting that he remained fit and ready to resume his duties.
“Rumours will always emanate from politics. The fact remains that I’m here, healthy, sound and ready to go. Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” he said.
The President departed Abuja on August 30 and spent about a week in London before proceeding to Paris, where he attended a number of engagements.
His activities in France included a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron as well as meetings with business leaders.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had earlier explained that Tinubu chose to return through Lagos in order to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola.
The President is expected to attend the October 1 premiere of a film celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Lagos.
While in Lagos, Tinubu is also expected to meet political leaders and associates before returning to Abuja.
His prolonged stay in Europe had attracted questions from opposition parties, which demanded information about his whereabouts.
Onanuga had previously announced that the President’s vacation had been extended “by a few days” while maintaining that Tinubu was hale and hearty.
