Sabalenka Storms Into US Open Third Round With Crushing Win
Aryna Sabalenka has sent another warning to her US Open rivals after destroying Polina Iatcenko 6-1, 6-1 in just 53 minutes.
The world No. 1 produced a dominant serving and power-hitting display to keep her title defence firmly on track.
Sabalenka is chasing a third consecutive US Open crown, a feat last achieved by Serena Williams between 2012 and 2014.
Rain caused major disruptions across Flushing Meadows, forcing several players to deal with delayed matches and court changes.
Alex de Minaur eventually defeated Andrea Guerrieri 6-2, 6-2, 6-4, while Paula Badosa completed a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Daria Kasatkina.
Jessica Pegula also advanced comfortably, beating Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-1.
Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev and Karolina Muchova were among the other seeded players to progress.
With the tournament moving deeper into the second week, Sabalenka remains one of the biggest threats to everyone chasing the US Open trophy.
