Mbappe Unleashes Fury as Mourinho’s Madrid Crush Sociedad 4-1
Kylian Mbappe unleashed a brilliant hat-trick as Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 in La Liga on Wednesday.
The victory gave Jose Mourinho a winning return to the Santiago Bernabeu and extended Madrid’s perfect start under their returning manager.
Madrid have now won both matches since Mourinho took charge, following their late 2-1 victory over Espanyol last weekend.
Mbappe was central to the victory, while Vinicius Junior also scored. Jude Bellingham supplied two assists as Madrid’s attacking stars troubled Sociedad throughout.
The visitors created the first serious opening, but Thibaut Courtois produced a smart save to deny Mikel Oyarzabal.
At the other end, Alex Remiro twice kept Madrid from scoring, stopping efforts from Mbappe and Vinicius during an open first half.
Madrid eventually took the lead five minutes before half-time through Mbappe.
Federico Valverde found the French striker, who cleverly escaped his marker before firing into the top corner.
Sociedad responded before the interval when Luka Sucic collected a loose ball and fired past Courtois after his initial effort was blocked.
Mbappe nearly restored Madrid’s lead early in the second half, but Remiro again denied him with an important save.
The goalkeeper could do nothing moments later when Bellingham released Mbappe inside the area.
Mbappe remained composed and calmly stroked the ball beyond Remiro to put Madrid back in front.
Madrid soon increased their advantage through Vinicius, who finished from close range after Bellingham won possession and created the chance.
Vinicius then turned provider, sending a perfectly weighted pass into Mbappe’s path for the Frenchman’s third goal.
Mbappe lifted the ball delicately over the advancing Remiro to complete his hat-trick and put the result beyond doubt.
The performance suggested Mourinho may be finding the right balance between Madrid’s three biggest attacking stars.
Vinicius was substituted seven minutes from time and shared a warm embrace with Mourinho before leaving the pitch.
The moment was notable following last season’s tension between Vinicius and former coach Xabi Alonso over his substitution during the Clasico.
Vinicius has since extended his Madrid contract until 2032, underlining his continued importance to the Spanish giants.
Mourinho will now look to maintain Madrid’s momentum as the new campaign gathers pace.
Barcelona are scheduled to host Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, with new signing Rodri expected to make his debut from the bench.
