FIFA Investigates Post-Match Incidents After Spain-Argentina World Cup Final

FIFA has opened a disciplinary investigation into incidents that occurred after the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.

The match ended in controversy after Spain secured victory through Ferran Torres’ 106th-minute goal, but tensions reportedly continued after the final whistle.

Argentina had already been reduced to 10 players before the decisive goal, with midfielder Enzo Fernández sent off by referee Slavko Vincic in the 90th minute following a foul on Spain defender Pau Cubarsí.

Footage that emerged after the match appeared to show Argentina players Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina involved in confrontations with Spain’s Eric García and Rodri.

Argentina coach Roberto Ayala was also reportedly seen striking Spain forward Dani Olmo during the post-match incidents.

FIFA has now begun examining the events to determine whether any players or team officials breached its disciplinary regulations.

In a statement, FIFA said it had assessed the relevant match reports and, in accordance with Article 36 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate possible violations connected to the incidents.

“Further details will be communicated by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee once the prosecutor’s report has been completed,” FIFA said.

The investigation will determine whether disciplinary action will be taken against any of the players or officials involved in the post-match confrontation.
