Alleged Fake Agency Boss Faces Court Over Tinubu Appointment Letter

The Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged forgery.

Adeyemi was brought before Justice Muhammed Umar on Wednesday to face an eight-count charge filed by the Federal Government.

The charges stem from allegations that he forged an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The prosecution also alleged that Adeyemi used the documents to present himself as the head of a government agency that had not been lawfully established.

The case is not a new development, as questions surrounding the purported council and Adeyemi’s appointment have been under investigation for several months.

The Presidency had previously stated that the organisation was not established by the Federal Government and that the Office of the Chief of Staff did not issue the appointment letter allegedly bearing Gbajabiamila’s signature.

The controversy reportedly came to the attention of the Presidency after concerns were raised over the activities of the purported council and the documents being used in its name.

Following the development, President Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the matter.

The ICPC subsequently investigated the council’s activities and reported that it found no valid legal instrument establishing the organisation as a federal government agency.

The anti-graft commission also said its investigation found that Adeyemi had not been appointed by the Federal Government and that documents allegedly used to support the appointment were forged.

The House of Representatives also investigated the matter and examined claims surrounding the purported agency, its establishment and documents linked to its activities.

The development eventually led to Adeyemi’s arrest after he was ordered to appear before the Federal High Court for arraignment.

He had remained in police custody before being brought before the court on Wednesday.

Adeyemi is now expected to defend himself against the allegations as the case proceeds. The charges remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
