Nathaniel Bassey Makes History as Africa’s First Gospel Artiste to Reach 1 Billion YouTube Views
Nigerian gospel singer and worship leader, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, has reportedly set a historic record as the first African gospel artiste to surpass one billion YouTube views.
His official YouTube channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, had accumulated approximately 1.014 billion views and 5.24 million subscribers as of November 1, 2026.
Data from YouTube analytics platforms Social Blade and ReachRanking indicated that the achievement came more than 15 years after the channel was established in March 2011.
The milestone reflects the growing international audience for Bassey’s gospel music, worship performances and online prayer sessions.
It also comes as his popular Hallelujah Challenge continues to attract considerable attention from Christians across different countries.
Founded in June 2017, the online prayer and worship programme started as a midnight session on Instagram Live.
What began as a small virtual gathering has developed into an international Christian community, bringing worshippers together for praise, prayers and testimonies.
The October 2026 edition recorded impressive viewership across its livestreams and recorded sessions.
According to ReachRanking, the opening session attracted more than four million views, while the grand finale, tagged Hallelujah Festival, recorded approximately 4.3 million views.
Several other sessions also attracted millions of views, highlighting the programme’s expanding digital reach.
Beyond the impressive statistics, the Hallelujah Challenge has created a platform for Christians worldwide to participate in collective worship without geographical restrictions.

Bassey’s latest YouTube milestone further highlights the growing international visibility of African gospel music in the digital space.
