Volkanovski Eyes Tsarukyan Fight if Gaethje Walks Away
Alexander Volkanovski has offered an alternative route to the UFC lightweight title, saying he is ready to face Arman Tsarukyan if champion Justin Gaethje declines to fight him or chooses retirement. The Australian made the proposal after defeating Movsar Evloev at UFC 333, reinforcing his status as one of the leading fighters in the sport.

Volkanovski has been pushing for a lightweight title showdown with Gaethje as a potential final chapter in both fighters’ careers. However, with Tsarukyan waiting for his title opportunity, uncertainty over Gaethje’s next move could open the door to a different matchup. Volkanovski said he respected Tsarukyan’s wrestling and grappling but believed he could get back to his feet and turn the contest into a striking battle.

Tsarukyan has also expressed interest in facing Volkanovski, although he recently questioned the Australian’s age and durability. The proposed title fight remains uncertain, with Gaethje’s decision likely to shape the lightweight division’s next move. Volkanovski, meanwhile, appears willing to step up if the championship opportunity becomes available.
