INEC inaugurates logistics committee ahead of 2027 elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has inaugurated a multi-agency logistics committee to coordinate the secure and timely distribution of election materials ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced this during the committee’s inauguration in Abuja, describing logistics as a critical component of the electoral process.
He said the credibility of elections depends partly on the timely availability of essential materials at polling units, stressing that no Nigerian should be disenfranchised because of delays in the delivery of election materials.
The committee, chaired by National Electoral Commissioner, retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, is expected to develop comprehensive plans for storing, transporting, distributing and retrieving sensitive and non-sensitive election materials.
In her keynote remarks, Abubakar-Sadiq said effective logistics management was essential to electoral integrity and public confidence.
She proposed specialised subcommittees to oversee air transport, land and maritime operations, as well as storage and security arrangements.
The committee will also identify difficult terrain and high-risk locations, assess logistical requirements, audit warehouses and transport facilities, and develop strategies to address transportation bottlenecks and security threats.
Its recommendations are expected to include clear operational timelines to guide preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration brought together representatives of security agencies, transport organisations, aviation and maritime institutions, alongside INEC national commissioners, as the commission intensifies preparations for the forthcoming polls.
