EFCC Sacks Over 40 Staff In Fresh Internal Shake-Up

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed more than 40 staff members in the past two and a half years.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed this Monday while addressing media executives and journalists in Abuja.

Olukoyede said more than five of the dismissed personnel were currently facing prosecution, while case files on others were being prepared.

He said the commission was determined to maintain high standards among its personnel, particularly those handling corruption investigations and prosecutions.

According to him, EFCC had introduced measures to strengthen accountability, including a policy regulating gifts received and declared by staff.

The chairman said personnel would be required to declare gifts above a specified value, including those received from relatives abroad.

He explained that the policy would help ensure that staff could account for their sources of livelihood and standard of living.

Olukoyede warned that EFCC personnel could not effectively fight corruption while engaging in similar practices themselves.

Meanwhile, the commission has renamed its Department of Internal Affairs as the Department of Ethics and Integrity.

The chairman said the change was part of broader efforts to strengthen ethical standards and internal accountability within the commission.

Olukoyede also disclosed that EFCC’s activities had contributed to revenue mobilisation, with about N288.1 billion recovered in federal and state tax obligations.

He said federal tax recoveries accounted for N173.2 billion, while N114.9 billion was attributed to state internal revenue services.

According to him, the commission also recovered approximately N257.2 billion for federal ministries, departments and agencies.

Olukoyede said EFCC recovered N1.23 trillion, $684.48 million, £373,905.78 and €9.34 million between October 2023 and June 2026.

He added that N661.32 billion and $492.37 million from the recoveries had been released to beneficiaries during the period under review.
