Dana White Blasts Ian Garry’s Lack of Killer Instinct After UFC 330 Loss

Dana White believes Ian Machado Garry missed a huge opportunity to upset Islam Makhachev at UFC 330, criticizing the Irishman for being too respectful in the final round. Makhachev retained his welterweight title by unanimous decision, extending his UFC winning streak to 17 fights.

White argued that Garry should have attacked aggressively instead of embracing and shaking hands with Makhachev. “If he had even an ounce of killer instinct, in that fifth round, you don’t come out and hug and shake hands,” White said. Makhachev shared the sentiment, admitting he was surprised by Garry’s repeated displays of respect during the fight.

Despite Garry landing some damaging strikes and even blooding the champion, Makhachev’s seven takedowns and more than 12 minutes of control ultimately decided the contest.

After the final bell, Garry raised Makhachev’s hand and apologized to his Irish supporters, but vowed to return stronger.
