Texas Mom Nabbed After 29 Years on the Run for Toddler’s Killing
Maria Narez, a Texas woman accused of causing the death of her three-year-old daughter, has been arrested in Mexico after nearly three decades on the run.
Narez, now 48, was accused of killing her daughter, Kasandra White, in Fort Worth, Texas, in November 1996.
According to reports, Narez was 19 at the time and allegedly shook and beat the toddler before throwing her against a wall after the child refused to go to bed.
The girl reportedly complained of being hurt before going to sleep. Narez later took her to hospital, where the child lost consciousness and eventually died.
Narez was indicted by a grand jury in 1997 but disappeared after her bond was reduced to $25,000. An arrest warrant was later issued after she failed to appear in court.
She allegedly fled to Mexico, where she remained for almost 30 years.
The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office said it never stopped pursuing the case.
“The DA’s office never gave up on bringing Narez back to face the charge against her and answer for the death of her daughter,” the office said.
Narez is expected to be extradited to Tarrant County to face the capital murder charge.
