RCMP Brings Back Black-and-White Look in First Major Vehicle Redesign in 32 Years

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is giving its patrol vehicles a major visual overhaul, replacing the familiar all-white design with a black-and-white colour scheme.

The new design, unveiled by the RCMP on Monday, features white doors set against a predominantly black vehicle body. It marks the force’s first major change to its vehicle appearance since 1994.

The RCMP, which provides policing services across Canada through detachments in provinces and territories including the Northwest Territories, said the new design is intended to make its vehicles more visible and instantly recognisable.

“The redesign improves visibility and supports a modern look, ensuring our vehicles remain clearly recognizable as police in every community we serve across the country,” the force said.

The new colour scheme also draws from earlier RCMP vehicle designs, linking the modern fleet to the organisation’s long history as Canada’s national police force.

The redesigned vehicles are expected to begin appearing on Canadian roads later this summer. However, the transition will be gradual, with the new vehicles introduced as older units reach the end of their service life and are replaced.

The RCMP said provinces, territories and municipalities will also be able to add local identifiers to the vehicles where necessary.

For some time, motorists and communities will see both the current all-white vehicles and the new black-and-white models operating alongside each other as the fleet is gradually renewed.
