Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has opened up about the painful experience he says left him emotionally broken and contributed to his withdrawal from people.
The actor spoke days after a video of him undergoing deliverance at a church in Abuja went viral, sparking renewed public concern about his wellbeing.
The video followed earlier sightings of Anuku appearing distressed, prompting widespread discussion on social media about his mental health and personal struggles.
But in a video shared online after the church prayers, the actor revealed that he had endured a deeply traumatic experience that affected both his personal life and career.
According to Anuku, the pain became so overwhelming that he began isolating himself and struggled to move forward.
“A lot of you know me, and I guess you have seen a lot online about me. I have been through a lot of traumatic situations,” he said.
The actor then disclosed that he had lost the woman he had hoped to marry and who was the mother of his children.
He said her death left him devastated, recalling how close they had been since they first met.
“I wanted to marry her, but she went to the great beyond too soon. She was the mother of my daughter and son. I remember when I first met her. We were always together,” he said.
Anuku explained that before the deliverance, he constantly felt emotionally burdened and uncomfortable.
However, he said the prayers had left him feeling renewed and relieved.
“Before the deliverance, I felt weighed down, very heavy and uncomfortable. But now I feel as light as a feather and like a newborn baby after the prayers,” he said.
The actor added that he had begun to experience joy again, saying he could once more feel “laughter and dancing” within him.
“I wanted to become someone I had never been before. I was misled until I was struck by the Holy Spirit and brought into God’s presence for deliverance, healing, and divine comfort,” he said.
Anuku had previously revealed in 2023 that depression contributed to his drinking habit.
His latest disclosure has now offered a glimpse into the personal pain he says preceded the recent concerns about his wellbeing and the viral deliverance video.
