Israel Alerts US to Alleged New Iranian Assassination Threat Against Trump
Israel has reportedly provided the United States with intelligence claiming that Iran recently devised a new plan targeting President Donald Trump, according to a CNN report citing sources familiar with the matter.
The intelligence was reportedly passed to Washington earlier this week, with one source saying it outlined a specific alleged assassination threat.
Another source told CNN that US intelligence agencies had already been receiving repeated indications in recent weeks of potential threats against Trump, although the Israeli warning was described as more detailed.
US officials, however, have not independently confirmed the information. According to people familiar with the matter, American intelligence agencies were not actively tracking the alleged plot before Israel raised the concern.
Some officials in Washington also believe the intelligence sharing may be part of Israel’s effort to influence Trump’s approach toward Iran as discussions continue over whether the US should increase military pressure on Tehran.
The White House declined to comment directly on the reported intelligence and instead referred to Trump’s recent remarks in which he claimed Iran was seeking to kill him.
“They want to take out the US leader — me,” Trump told reporters, adding that he believed he was at the top of Iran’s target list.
He also described Iranian leaders as “evil” and insisted the threat must be dealt with decisively.
Trump later repeated that he had been informed of a fresh list identifying him as Iran’s primary target, though it remains unclear whether he was referring to the intelligence reportedly supplied by Israel.
American officials have long warned that Iran could attempt to retaliate against Trump over the 2020 US drone strike that killed Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.
The latest report comes as relations between Washington and Tehran remain highly strained despite a fragile ceasefire.
Recent exchanges of military strikes and hostile rhetoric have raised fears that the truce may not hold.
CNN reported that US intelligence agencies are also monitoring several individuals who have allegedly discussed possible attacks, although officials say none have taken concrete action.
Authorities remain concerned that Iran could seek revenge against current or former senior US officials.
At the same time, some members of the US intelligence community are said to be treating the Israeli assessment cautiously, arguing it could also reflect Israel’s broader effort to shape American policy toward Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has openly disagreed with Trump in recent months over aspects of his Iran strategy and military decisions involving Lebanon.
The two leaders spoke by telephone on Thursday, with Netanyahu expected to travel to Washington for further talks.
Despite rising tensions, diplomatic contacts between the United States and Iran are reportedly continuing behind the scenes.
Officials from both countries are said to be working toward reaching a nuclear agreement before the middle of August.
US military planners also reportedly prepared contingency strike options should the situation deteriorate further.
Fighter aircraft aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln carried out readiness drills, although no military action was ultimately launched as diplomatic efforts remained underway.
