Paraguay Stuns Germany in Historic Penalty Shootout to Reach World Cup Last 16
Paraguay pulled off one of the greatest upsets in football history by eliminating four-time world champions Germany in the Round of 32.
Following a tense 1-1 draw after extra time, the South American squad held their nerve to secure a stunning 4-3 victory on penalties.
The dramatic match saw Julio Enciso open the scoring for Paraguay before Kai Havertz equalized to send the game into a grueling extra period.
German hearts were later broken in sudden death when Jonathan Tah missed his target, allowing José Canale to smash home the historic winning spot-kick.
This historic triumph marks the first time Germany has ever lost a World Cup penalty shootout, ending their tournament campaign unexpectedly early.
Meanwhile, No. 34-ranked Paraguay marches on to the Round of 16 to face either France or Sweden in Philadelphia.
