FIFA Bans Qatar’s Madibo for Five Matches After Horror Tackle
FIFA has suspended Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo for five matches following the challenge that left Canada’s Ismael Kone with a serious leg injury during the 2026 World Cup.

The governing body’s disciplinary committee imposed the sanction after reviewing the incident, which occurred during Qatar’s crushing 6-0 defeat to Canada last week.
Madibo was shown a straight red card after a reckless tackle on Kone, who suffered fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg.
The Canadian international was rushed for surgery in Vancouver shortly after the match. Kone, 24, currently plays for Italian club Sassuolo and is expected to face a lengthy recovery period.
FIFA ruled that the challenge constituted serious foul play, resulting in a five-game suspension for the Qatari midfielder. Madibo retains the right to appeal the decision.
In a gesture of goodwill following the incident, Madibo later visited Kone in hospital as the Canadian began his rehabilitation.

The suspension adds to Qatar’s woes after a disappointing World Cup campaign that has seen the Gulf nation struggle for results on the global stage.
