DSS Urged to Question Sunday Igboho Over Claims on Oyo School Abduction

Calls have intensified for security agencies in Nigeria to act on fresh claims surrounding the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant agencies to invite Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, to clarify his statements about the incident.

Igboho had told members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that he knows those responsible for the abductions and alleged that certain politicians may be involved, warning that he would expose them if pressure continues.

Reacting, Ibe said such claims should not be ignored if they could help in rescuing the victims, stressing the need for security agencies to pursue every credible lead.

He also referenced the broader insecurity situation in the country, including the reported abduction of over 50 schoolchildren in Mussa, Borno State in May, questioning the government’s response to the incident.

According to him, there are concerns over what he described as uneven attention given to similar cases across different regions of Nigeria.

Ibe further called for stronger preventive security measures in vulnerable areas, arguing that authorities often act only after attacks have already occurred.

The comments add to ongoing public debate over school kidnappings and the government’s approach to tackling insecurity nationwide.
