5 Family Members Found Dead in Abia Home

Five members of the same family have been found dead inside their home in Umuimo Village, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The victims were identified as Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife, Chinaza, and their three young children.

The family was reportedly last seen on Sunday, July 19. Concern grew after neighbours noticed that none of them had come out of the house for several days.

After repeated knocks went unanswered, the deceased man’s brother and some neighbours reportedly forced their way into the home on Wednesday, July 22.

They were met with the bodies of the five family members inside the building.

The bodies were reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition when they were discovered.

Containers believed to have contained leftover food and a generator were reportedly found inside the house.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and the Abia State Police Command has commenced an investigation to determine what happened.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters received a report about the incident on July 22.

According to her, the report was made by the brother of Kachi Nnabugwu after he was unable to reach him.

The police spokesperson said the man’s brother and others went to the residence, where repeated knocks received no response. They subsequently forced their way into the building and discovered the bodies.

The crime scene was visited by police officers, who conducted a preliminary visual inspection and took photographs.

DSP Chinaka said the bodies had been deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Residents of the community are calling for a thorough investigation to establish the cause of death and clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
