2027 Election: Over 1,000 Islamic Clerics Tell Tinubu to Step Aside
More than 1,000 Islamic clerics have called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election.

The clerics made the demand after a meeting to assess the state of the nation under the Tinubu administration and discuss the 2027 general elections.
In a communique issued after the meeting, they expressed concern over the worsening economic situation and insecurity across the country.
They said government policies had made life increasingly difficult for ordinary Nigerians, particularly amid rising living costs and unemployment.
The clerics specifically faulted the removal of fuel subsidy, floating of the naira, increase in electricity tariffs and proposed tax reforms.
According to them, the policies have placed additional pressure on Nigerians while the government continues to prioritise revenue generation.
They argued that the administration should review policies that have increased economic hardship instead of insisting on measures they said were hurting citizens.
The development comes after two Islamic groups, JIBWIS and the Qadiriyya Sufi sect, endorsed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 election.
The endorsement followed a visit to the groups by Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council.
However, the clerics under Ko Da Naka… For the Struggle to Promote Good Governance and Community Development and AFAQ Educational Foundation took a different position.
They said re-electing the Tinubu administration would be inappropriate if it failed to change what they described as harmful economic policies.

The clerics therefore urged the government to reconsider its approach to the economy and introduce measures capable of reducing hardship and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
