12 Years After Lagos Launch, Uber Leaves Nigeria
Uber is ending its operations in Nigeria after 12 years, with the ride-hailing company announcing its exit effective Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The company disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the decision followed a review of its business operations in the country.
“After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” Uber said.
Uber launched its services in Lagos in 2014 and subsequently became a major part of Nigeria’s growing ride-hailing industry.
Reflecting on its years in the country, the company thanked Nigerians for using its platform to connect with independent transportation providers.
“Since we first launched in Lagos in 2014, it has been an absolute privilege to be a part of your daily life,” the company said.
Uber acknowledged that its departure could disrupt the routines of customers who relied on the platform for transportation.
“We know this may cause disruption to your routine, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” it added.
The company said its help centre would remain available until September 23, 2026, to assist customers with outstanding account-related enquiries.
Uber thanked Nigerians for welcoming the company and using its services throughout its 12-year presence in the country.
