11-Year-Old Boy Becomes Unexpected Hero After Diving Into Pool to Rescue Drowning Man
What began as an ordinary evening at a residential swimming pool in Lexington, Kentucky, quickly turned into a life-or-death emergency when an adult man was seen lying motionless beneath the water.
While panic spread among those nearby, it was an 11-year-old boy who stepped forward when others hesitated.
The boy, Avory Woolery, said he noticed the man submerged in the pool at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday and realized something was terribly wrong.
Without waiting for instructions, he put on his swimming goggles, dived into the water and pulled the unconscious man toward the surface.
“I was like, somebody’s gotta do something. No one was doing anything, so I put on my goggles. I went underwater. I grabbed him up,” Woolery told local television station WKYT.
He said the victim appeared unconscious beneath the water and was “almost shaking,” adding that he was determined not to let another person lose his life.
After Woolery brought the man to the surface, another person at the pool helped pull him onto the deck. CPR was immediately started while emergency services were contacted.
The Lexington Fire Department later transported the victim to a hospital in serious condition. Authorities have not released his identity, and his latest condition has not been made public.
The young rescuer’s courage has since drawn widespread praise on social media, with many describing his quick thinking and selfless actions as extraordinary for someone his age.
One Facebook user summed up the public reaction, writing, “What a very brave young man!!”
