Rivers Man in Police Custody for Allegedly Beating Girlfriend to Death
Police in Rivers State have arrested a 30-year-old man, Richard Emmanuel, over the alleged killing of his girlfriend, Caroline Sunday, following a domestic dispute in the Eneka community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, July 11, at Abraham Street, where the couple were said to have engaged in a heated argument over allegations of infidelity.
According to residents, the confrontation escalated into a physical assault during which the suspect allegedly beat the victim before she sustained a severe head injury after hitting the edge of a wall. Neighbours who heard her cries for help rushed to the scene and found her lying in a pool of blood.
Despite efforts to save her, Caroline was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed her dead.
Residents reportedly restrained the suspect from fleeing before officers from the Eneka Police Division arrived and took him into custody.
The victim’s body has been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the suspect is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Port Harcourt.
She added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the police investigation.
